UFC 206: Pettis doesn't make weight and has no chance of becoming champion anymore

Duel against Max Holloway is maintained, but Pettis will not be able to win the belt in case of victory

It won't be this time Anthony Pettis will win his second UFC belt. The former lightweight champion, who would fight for the interim featherweight title against Max Holloway in the main attraction of UFC 206, which takes place this Saturday (10), in Toronto, Canada, he weighed 67,1kg and was unable to reach the category limit (66kg), which makes it impossible for him to become champion, even if of victory. However, the duel was maintained, but only “The Blessed” is able to be crowned.

According to the rules, there is no tolerance limit in title fights. It is the first time that an athlete who will fight for the title has not made weight since February 2007, when Travis Lutter experienced the same problem when he faced Anderson Silva for the middleweight belt (up to 84kg).

This would be only the second fight of Anthony Pettis at featherweight. He debuted in the new category in August this year, when he finished the Brazilian Charles of the Bronx No. UFC Vancouver.
