Dana White, president of the UFC, decided to break the silence and comment on the much talked about decision taken last Saturday (26), when Conor McGregor was stripped of his position as featherweight champion, thus making José Aldo the new linear champion of the category. However, anyone who thinks that the decision was made by the organization is mistaken.

After John Kavanagh, Conor's trainer, went public and said that the measure came from Ultimate, and in a wrong way, according to him, Dana tried to deny Kavanagh, stating that the decision to give up the featherweight belt was made by McGregor himself.
“He (John Kavanagh) is uninformed. I don't think he knows everything that happened. Do you think I did this? That was Conor’s decision”, declared White, in an interview with “Yahoo!”.
However, despite exempting himself from “guilt”, Dana admitted that McGregor was holding back the category. Now, without the Irishman, the president hopes that the division will once again have a champion who will defend the division's belt.
“Look, I let Conor fight Diaz and then I let him fight Diaz again. So there was a hole in the lightweight division and I let him fight. But in the end, he stopped the (featherweight) division for a year. There's a stalemate there and a lot of guys were pissed. This was my way of rectifying the impasse. I wanted Aldo to fight Holloway for the belt, but he needed more time. So I looked at that and said: “well, it makes sense to make Aldo champion and have Holloway and Pettis for the interim title, and, when José is ready, barring some crazy injury, the winner can fight him”, he concluded.
