One year after the fateful UFC 193, which marked the first defeat of Ronda Rousey in MMA, Ultimate returns to the city of Melbourne, Australia. UFC Fight Night 101 will not feature big stars, but promises to deliver a fierce and competitive duel in the main fight.

The middleweights Robert whittaker e Derek Brunson they measure forces in the main event, with the winner placing very close to the top 5 in the category. Home athlete, Whittaker has not fought since April this year, when he overcame the Brazilian Rafael Sapo in the unanimous decision of the judges. Seventh in the rankings and with five consecutive victories, the Australian has not lost since the beginning of 2014, when he was still in the lower welterweight division. In the UFC, he has seven wins and two losses.
Brunson, in turn, knocked out Uriah Hall at UFC Fight Night 94, in September, and extended his undefeated streak in the Octagon to five fights. With four knockouts in a row, all in the first round, Derek, 8th in the rankings, has only been beaten once in Ultimate, when he was knocked out by Yoel romero, in 2014. In total, he won seven and lost once in the organization.
In the second main fight of the night, the highlight will be the lightweight Jake matthews. At just 22 years old, the Australian is considered one of the main promises in MMA. Defeated by Kevin Lee In his final appearance, Matthews will have to overcome Andrew Holbrook to get back to winning ways.
On the preliminary card, middleweights Daniel Kelly and Chris Camozzi face each other with an eye on the top 15 in the category. Interestingly, both fighters faced Brazilians in their most recent appearances: Camozzi was submitted by Thales leites, last August, while Kelly surprised by knocking out Antonio Shoe Guy, in March of this year.
