Sterling is injured and leaves duel with Assunção in Albany

Organization is now looking for a replacement for the event, who, due to its proximity, should already be authorized to fight in the USA

One of the most promising fights at UFC Fight Night Albany has been removed from the schedule. Aljamain Sterlin, who would face Raphael Assunção in a fight valid for the bantamweight division, he suffered an injury and was removed from the show, which takes place on December 9th.

The injury was first revealed by the North American website “MMA Junkie”, which, however, did not specify the exact problem suffered by Sterling. The UFC is still looking for a replacement for the duel, but, due to the proximity of the event, it is only analyzing fighters who are already authorized to compete in the United States.

Sterling, 27 years old, is ranked eighth in the official rankings of the 61 kg division. In his last fight, the “Funk Master”, as he is known, lost his unbeaten record in professional MMA when he was defeated by Bryan caraway in the judges' decision. Assunção, 34, is third in the ranking, and is coming off a defeat to the former champion TJ Dillashaw at UFC 200.

The main fight of UFC Fight Night Albany will be between heavyweights Derrick Lewis and Shamil Abdurakhimov. With Sterling's departure, the two Brazilians scheduled for the show are left without opponents. Juliana Lima, who would face Tatiana Suarez placeholder image, is also waiting for a new opponent after her rival's injury.
