Considered next in line to challenge for the UFC welterweight belt, Demian Maia revealed that he will not return to the Octagon until he receives the opportunity to fight for the title. The Brazilian was willing to wait for the rematch between Tyron woodley e Stephen Thompson to then challenge the winner.

Woodley and Thompson fought for the title last Saturday (12), in New York (USA). However, the duel ended in a draw, which caused UFC president, Dana White, to immediately guarantee that a dispute between the two should be married soon.

Demian was given the option to wait his turn or fight again if he wanted. “I spoke briefly with Dana White, and it was important to speak to him. He told Dana, 'Don't forget me. I am here. I'm next.' He told me 'don't worry, no one will forget you.' It was a good sign”, revealed the Brazilian, in an interview with the podcast “The MMA Hour”. “Dana said he'll probably do the rematch, but at the same time, he said I'm next in line. Dana said I could either wait, or fight before I got the chance. […] I still need to see it. I'll probably wait, but I don't know. First I need to see if the rematch will happen, when it will happen. I know I can beat everyone in my category, but what if I get punched, fall and lose the fight? What will happen?”, he added.

The 39-year-old Brazilian has won six consecutive victories, three of which were by submission.
