After being knocked out by Alexander Gustafson No. UFC 133, the american Matt hamill announced, this Monday, his retirement as a professional MMA athlete. The fighter, who is hearing impaired, released the statement through his official website.

“Today is a sad day for me. After six years and 13 fights in the UFC, I am ready to hang up my gloves and retire from this wonderful sport,” wrote Hamill, who during his career accumulated 10 wins and four losses.

Matt participated in the third edition of The Ultimate Fighter, the UFC's reality show, but was forced to leave the program due to an injury. The 32-year-old American blamed an endless string of injuries for bringing the end of his career to an early stage.

“I was ready to make that decision after UFC 130 (when I lost to Rampage in the judges’ decision), but my friends, coaches, family and, most importantly, my daughter encouraged me to try one last time,” he said. “My career has been haunted by injuries that started on The Ultimate Fighter and have hindered my work ever since. I haven't been kind to my body. After 28 years of competition, the time has come to rest”, he concluded.

 

The life of Matt Hamill, who captivated thousands of fans with his story of overcoming, gained tributes beyond the octagon. The fighter was the subject of a film named after him and was awarded awards at several festivals around the world. The official release of the film should take place later this year.
