Jones and Henderson face each other in submission in December

Four years later, the duel between Jon Jones e Dan Henderson will come out of the paper. The two multi-time champions will be in the main fight of Submission Underground 2, a grappling event that will take place on December 11th, in Portland, Oregon (USA).

The announcement was made by none other than Chael Sonnen, owner of the event. The North American told the news on the podcast “The MMA Hour” and stated that the choice for the fight was relatively simple.

“The negotiations were very easy. Jon suggested it. He said, 'Why not fight with Dan Henderson?' We had thought about Nick Diaz, Michael Bisping, and we took Jon's advice. This is the fight that never happened and we are probably the only event that can bring these guys together”, explained Sonnen.

However, Sonnen still does not know whether Jones' doping suspension, announced this Monday (7), could affect the plans. “Grappling has never been affected by commissions in the past, but if they ask for something, we have to follow their rules. I’m not worried, but let’s check with the other side to make sure there’s nothing missing,” he clarified.

Jones and Henderson were scheduled to face each other at UFC 151 in September 2012. However, the fight (and subsequently the entire event) was canceled following an injury to Henderson.
