Strikeforce arrives in Illinois, next Saturday (30), in an event that promises to be historic. In addition to Brazilians Gesias Cavalcante e Edward Pamplona, the fight program features a duel of legends as its main attraction. The Russian Fedor Emelianenko, considered the greatest heavyweight in the history of MMA, will face the North American Dan Henderson, multi-champion in events such as Pride, UFC, Rings and Strikeforce.
Responsible for jiu-jitsu training at Team Quest, Henderson's team, Brazilian Ricardo “Pantcho” Feliciano spoke with the SUPER FIGHTS about his pupil's training for the awaited combat.
“The training was very strong, the routine was the same, but with heavier sparring,” said Pantcho, who explained the strategy for the fight.
“The idea is to stay on top, controlling your hips well and using punches from above. But always keep an eye on his (Fedor) hip release for a possible attack on the arm”, added the black belt.
Besides Dan Henderson, Team Quest will have another representative at the show: Tarec saffiedine, who would face the Brazilian Cyborg Evangelist, but due to an injury to the Brazilian athlete, the Belgian fighter will face Scott Smith. Pantcho also spoke about the European athlete's preparation for combat.
“Nothing changed in the preparation (in relation to the fight against Cyborg), just part of the strategy, as the athlete (Scott Smith) has a different game”, he said. “Certainly, if we have the opportunity, Tarec will face Cyborg. Why not?".
