MMA will now have another Olympic medalist. Kayla harrison, who topped the judo podium at the Rio de Janeiro Games in August this year, signed a contract with the World Series of Fighting (WSOF) to compete from 2017.

The 26-year-old American will initially act as a commentator and ambassador for the event. Its first official participation will take place on December 31st, the date on which the WSOF will hold an event at Madison Square Garden, a gym located in New York (USA).

“I've been training boxing and jiu-jitsu and everything, and the best thing for me is that I miss competing. I miss fighting on the biggest stages in the world, and WSOF gave me a great opportunity”, said the former judoka, in an interview with the newspaper “USA Today”.

Thus, Kayla follows in the footsteps of her former training partner Ronda Rousey, who began competing in MMA after winning bronze at the Olympics in Beijing, China. Years later, Ronda entered the UFC, remained champion and became one of MMA's biggest stars.
