Belfort was a supporter of the treatment, which allowed users with a deficiency in testosterone production to repeat the treatment in order to return to normal levels. However, after a long and intense controversy on the subject, TRT was banned in MMA in 2014.

Mousasi, who shared the octagon with Belfort on October 8, at UFC 204, said he saw a different Vitor than usual. “I think Vitor has several psychological problems. If you look at TRT, it's basically testosterone. You will become aggressive and confident. You feel more manly. If he hits you, he'll attack you with punches and kicks. But I didn't give him that chance. He landed a punch at the beginning, but I think he has several psychological problems”, he analyzed, in an interview with the newspaper “Daily Star Sports”.

On that occasion, Mousasi beat Belfort by technical knockout in the second round. It was the Brazilian's third defeat in four fights since the TRT ban.
