James Quinn was hired by the former champion to analyze the current contractual situation between the athlete and Ultimate. This week, GSP announced that he had terminated his relationship with the organization, which countered and stated that the contract was, in fact, still in force.

Experienced in labor cases in other sports, Quinn criticized the terms used in the agreement between St. Pierre and the UFC. “I've done a lot of work with sports. When I read [St. Pierre's contract with the UFC], I was amazed at how restrictive it is. They basically want to tie you down for life. He has no rights and they [the UFC] own all the licensing rights and things like that. I’ve never seen anything like this in other professional sports” he commented, in an interview with the North American website “MMA Fighting”.

Quinn revealed that the situation between St. Pierre and the UFC will go to court so that the Canadian can get rid of the agreement. “There is a dispute that determines whether the contract is legal or not according to the laws. The case is still ongoing, and I believe that, under the terms of the law, the contract will not stand. Not in today's world. It’s basically a form of slavery,” he continued.

Without fighting since 2013, St. Pierre publicly expressed his desire to return to competition, but has not had any fights confirmed. Negotiations between the two parties hit two obstacles: the first is that the Canadian's contract with the UFC was signed in 2011, before the organization's sponsorship policy with Reebok began. The second implies the UFC's delay in arranging him a fight, since, according to GSP, the UFC did not get back to him after his request – which, according to him, was stipulated in the contract.
