Interim UFC light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones it once again caused a stir on social media. Cormier and Johnson were giving an interview on American television to promote the duel, and, while watching, Jones made comments in real time. “Bones” he insisted that, even though he is unable to fight, he generates more repercussions than his rivals. “I can’t wait to get back and slap these light heavyweights. Even though I'm away, I'm more relevant than anyone in this category. You know that when you retire, you will only be known as my challengers. It’s easy for y’all to talk s*** when daddy’s not home,” he wrote.
Jones then directly criticized Cormier and Johnson. “DC will always be that normal guy who worked hard. And for Johnson to say that my problems outside the octagon are 'incredible' is almost unbelievable. Trying to step on me doesn’t make you look like a saint,” he commented, referring to the personal controversies in which Johnson was involved.
Jones was stripped of his post as light heavyweight champion in 2015, when he was suspended for being involved in a traffic accident and fleeing without providing assistance to a victim, a pregnant woman. He had a chance to regain the belt in July, at UFC 200, but failed a doping test on the eve of the fight. Currently, “Bones” is suspended.
