Brazil will have another representative at UFC Rio, an event that takes place on August 27th, at the HSBC Arena, in the capital of Rio. The Nova União athlete Johnny Eduardo was announced as the organization's new hire and debuted on the show against compatriot Raphael Assunção.

Initially, Raphael was scheduled to face Darren Uyenoyama, but the American was forced to leave the fight due to contractual problems with Shooto, an event in which the fighter has a contract in force.

Resident in the United States, Assunção, who has a record of 16 wins and four losses, is trying to rehabilitate himself in the UFC after losing to Erik Koch at UFC 128, held in March. In turn, Johnny Eduardo, who has a professional record of 25 wins and eight losses, is experiencing one of the best moments of his career. Coming from 11 consecutive victories, the fighter comes from a triumph over Jose Wilson, at Shooto Brasil 22, held in April.
