Excess testosterone caused Marquardt's dismissal from UFC

The controversy over the dismissal of Nate marquardt, one day before UFC on Versus 4, came to an end. This Tuesday, in an interview with the MMA Hour program, the North American explained the real reason for his removal from the organization's roster of athletes.

Marquardt stated that he failed the medical exams, the day before the event, because he had high levels of testosterone in his body, as he had injected doses of the hormone on the recommendation of his doctor.

“I was not medically cleared to fight because of a situation I had been dealing with since August last year,” he said, claiming that he was having hormonal problems in 2010 and that is why he started taking doses of testosterone. However, he did not expect this to hinder his fight against Rick Story, as the New Jersey Athletic Commission would have approved his hormone treatment.

“I'm not a doctor, but I have to be responsible, since I'm going to fight and I'm in the main event. I made a mistake”, admitted the American, almost moving to tears.

The problem reminds you of what happened to Chael Sonnen. After fighting Anderson Silva, at UFC 117, and almost taking the Brazilian's belt away, he was also caught with high levels of testosterone in his body. By coincidence, Sonnen's doctor is the same as Nate's: Lex McMahon.
