Former challenger for the event's welterweight belt, the fighter will face his compatriot Jake Ellenberger in the main fight of UFC Fight Night 25: Battle on the Bayou, which will be held on September 17th in the United States.
Shields is a former Strikeforce middleweight champion and moved to the UFC after the purchase of his former organization by ZUFFA, the company that manages the Ultimate. Cesar Gracie's pupil will try to find his way back to victory after being defeated by champion Georges St-Pierre, by unanimous decision of the judges, in April this year at UFC 129.
Ellenberger hasn't known what it's like to lose since January of last year, a period in which he had four fights in his career. The North American is coming off a knockout victory (punches) over Canadian Sean Pierson in another match valid for the 129th edition of the UFC.
In addition to the clash between Shields and Ellenberger, UFC Fight Night 25: Battle on the Bayou also has three other confirmed fights.
