One day after announcing his participation in Strikeforce Challengers 18, the Brazilian Jorge gurgel Today (23) he had confirmation of his opponent for the edition that takes place on August 12th in Las Vegas. The Brazilian athlete will try to obtain his second consecutive victory in the organization when facing the North American Joe duarte in the main fight of the night.
Gurgel, holder of a record of 14 wins and seven losses, is coming off a victory over North American Billy Vaughan in March this year at the Strikeforce – Feijao vs. Henderson. On that occasion, the black belt needed just 44 seconds to submit Vaughan with a guillotine choke and rediscover his winning path after two consecutive defeats in Strikeforce.
Duarte is undefeated in four fights and will have his second fight as a Strikeforce athlete. The American debuted with victory in the organization by submitting Saad Awad with an armbar in the Strikeforce – Diaz vs. Daley, which took place last April. With this result, Duarte reached nine victories in 11 fights in his career.
