Former UFC welterweight (77 kg) title challenger, Dan Hardy could return to the Octagon after four years away due to heart problems. The Englishman still hopes to be able to fulfill his contract with the organization, and, perhaps, in a new category.
Hardy's last fight in the UFC was in September 2012, when he beat Amir Sadollah. After that, the fighter was diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome, which causes cardiac arrhythmia and which can, in more extreme cases, cause sudden death when performing more intense exercises.
Even so, Hardy still sees a future for himself within the UFC. “I have a few fights left on my contract. I still need to be cleared by a doctor and I am in the process of getting that done. Just wanted to have some fun fights. I'm much lighter than I used to be – I think a lightweight fight would be better for me. I'm not interested in belts. I want to be challenged and test myself against people I admire”, he told the program “UFC Tonight”, on the North American broadcaster “FOX Sports”.
Hardy challenged for the welterweight belt in 2011, when he was defeated by Georges St Pierre in the judges' decision. Since stepping away from fighting, the Englishman has dedicated himself to his career as a UFC commentator and even to sailing events.
