UFC rewards fighters who use Twitter

Twitter is one of the most used tools by sportspeople in the world. Although the microblog causes some controversy among football players, the UFC wants to encourage its athletes to use the social network. During the UFC Fighter Summit, an event held in Las Vegas this week, Dana White, president of the organization, announced that an award will be created for Ultimate's biggest “tweeters”.

Starting in June, UFC and Strikeforce fighters will be divided into four categories, and the athletes who gain the most followers and write the most creative messages will receive US$5 (about R$8) as a bonus prize.

“At the end of each quarter, three fighters from each category will be awarded a $5 bonus,” said Dana White during the UFC Fighter Summit. At the end of 12 months, the UFC will distribute around R$390 in prizes to athletes who use the microblog.

Among Brazilians, the most adept at Twitter are Wanderlei Silva, Vitor belfort e Anderson Silva, who has the largest number of followers among UFC athletes, with 260 thousand.
