CM Punk's MMA debut, which will take place this Saturday (10) at UFC 203, in Cleveland, United States, is not being well received by some names in the industry. Frank mir, the organization's former heavyweight champion, appeared uncomfortable and held his tongue when commenting on the situation of the former pro-wrestling star, who will have his first professional MMA fight against the inexperienced Mickey gall, who only has two fights in his career – one in Ultimate.
– I'll be honest, this pisses me off. I don't like. I'm trying to be impartial and not be an idiot, but the more we talk about it, the more irritated I get about the situation because it's bullshit. This is not a legitimate UFC fight. These fights happen in boxing, they have those fights between celebrities where a guy with a name who shouldn't be there gets in there with someone after doing a “soap opera” and people can watch because of that performance, but that fight wouldn't be on the card of a Mayweather fight. They wouldn't put it together (on the same card), and the fact that they're putting the CM Punk fight on the same card as the title fights doesn't sit well with me”, criticized Mir on his podcast, Phone Booth Fighting (USA).
The former heavyweight champion also criticized Punk's public videos in which he showed some moments of his preparation for the fight. Ironically, he said that he hopes that the images portrayed are just a tactic by the WWE star to deceive his opponent:
“I hope CM is a genius at psychological warfare and is purposely putting this type of video out there to trick Gall into feeling comfortable thinking CM is not a good fighter. Watching him fight, I felt like I was in the gym watching normal guys who didn't want to be fighters, just taking a class. I saw some women taking cardio kickboxing classes and moving better than him.”
