Duel between Chris Weidman and Yoel Romero confirmed for UFC 205

The UFC 205 card, which will mark the debut of MMA in New York (USA), continues to take shape. Chris Weidman, former UFC middleweight champion, will face the Cuban Yoel romero at the show scheduled for November 12th, at the Madison Square Garden gym. Interestingly, both men last fought on the same date, at UFC 194, last December, an event in which Conor McGregor knocked out José Aldo in just 13 seconds. The duel had already been speculated for a few days, and today it was confirmed by the North American website 'MMA Junkie'.

In this ocasion, Chris Weidman lost the belt after being knocked out by Luke Rockhold in the fourth round. Before the setback, the North American maintained an undefeated record with 13 fights and had nine consecutive victories in the UFC, including three title defenses against Anderson Silva, Lyoto Machida e Vitor belfort.

Romero's situation is different. The Cuban is coming off a controversial victory over Ronaldo Jacare, but was caught in an anti-doping test using the substance Ibutamoren, derived from growth hormone, prohibited in anti-doping regulations. However, he was able to prove that he had ingested a contaminated supplement, which resulted in a suspension of just six months. With seven consecutive victories in Ultimate, Yoel should have the chance to compete for the category belt if he achieves a positive result against Weidman.
