Mauricio Shogun rematches Forrest Griffin at UFC Rio

After Anderson Silva be confirmed in the main attraction of UFC Rio, another national idol was announced on the card in the Brazilian edition of Ultimate. Former light heavyweight champion Mauricio Shogun will face the North American Forrest griffin, in a rematch of the duel that took place at UFC-76, in 2007. The confirmation was made, this Friday, by the organization's president, Dana White.

In the first fight between Shogun and Griffin, the Brazilian athlete made his debut in the organization and started dominating the fight, but as time went by, Mauricio felt the lack of rhythm and ended up submitting in the last round with a rear naked choke. In their latest presentations, the athletes come from different moments. Shogun lost the event belt to Jon Jones at UFC 128, held in March, while Griffin is coming off two consecutive victories, the last being over Rich Franklin at UFC 126, held in February.

UFC Rio is scheduled to take place on August 28th, at the HSBC Arena, in the capital of Rio. The first and only time that Ultimate was in Brazil, in October 1998, in the city of São Paulo. The show, which was called UFC 17.5, was marked by the quick knockout applied by Vitor belfort about Wanderlei Silva in 44 seconds of fighting. This edition of the event also featured world-renowned athletes, such as: Pedro Rizzo, Frank Shamrock and Tank Abbott.
