Chael Sonnen is convicted of money laundering in the US

The always controversial Chael Sonnen was tried, this Friday, in the case that he was accused of money laundering (remember here). The American athlete, who before becoming a professional fighter was a real estate agent in the city of Portland, was accused of overpricing the prices of plumbing materials by passing on the difference between the real value and the stipulated value to the buyer of the property, a practice that constituted the prosecution's accusation. After listening to those involved, the judge sentenced them to two years in prison, which could be served on probation, and a fine of US$10.

PUBLICITY:

“The conviction and sentence imposed demonstrates that no one is above the law,” said Dwight Holton, U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon.

PUBLICITY:

Sonnen, who at the beginning of the process had his contract suspended by Ultimate, had already served a six-month sentence for being caught in the anti-doping test at UFC 117, when he dominated the fight against the Brazilian Anderson, but ended up submitting in the last round. Now, it seems that Chael is free to return to competition.
