Protagonist of the second most important fight next Saturday (27), when he will face the former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis, Charles “from the Bronx” has a career goal: to be UFC champion, even if to do so he needs to face another Brazilian. In an interview with the UFC Brasil website, the sixth-ranked featherweight contender believes he can eventually face his compatriot José Aldo, current interim champion of the division. “This time, Conor will find a José Aldo focused and the belt will come to Brazil”, says Bronx, who adds that “soon, it will be a Brazilian versus Brazilian title fight”.

Charles is coming off a submission victory over Myles Jury in December last year, and believes that a victory in the duel against Pettis will put him close to a title shot. “They say Frankie might go down, and if that happens and I beat Pettis, I imagine a rematch with Frankie. Max Holloway. Me against him, and whoever wins will be the challenger”, declared Charles. It is worth remembering that the Brazilian suffered a ruptured esophagus and was declared defeated by technical knockout in the first duel against Holloway, in August 2015.
To overcome his next opponent, he bets on his jiu-jitsu, which has already given him 13 submission victories in his career, but he warns that he could surprise. “Everyone knows that my ground is aggressive, but even with that I have room to grow. I'm always trying to learn, training a lot of Muay Thai. This fight will surprise a lot of people”, said Oliveira.
At 26 years old, from the Bronx he can be considered a veteran within the UFC. The São Paulo native has 15 fights inside the Octagon, with nine wins, five losses and No Contest (fight without result), entitled to nine post-fight bonuses. Of the nine times he won in Ultimate, eight were by submission. In total, his record has 21 triumphs, five setbacks and one No answer.
