Through his Twitter account, Peña provoked Amanda nunes when questioning the champion’s “delay” in defining her future, and demanding a chance to compete for the category belt. “Holly didn’t wait to fight, Miesha didn’t wait to fight, what Amanda nunes Is doing? Fight me!”, wrote the possible challenger.
Nunes was direct in her response, stating that “the decision did not depend on her”. In her rejoinder, Julianna told the Brazilian to “make the fight happen”, but was retorted again. “Everyone knows I’m the champion. Proving yourself as a challenger is your obligation”, she told the “Leone”.
Afterwards, the Venezuelan challenged Amanda again. “Hey, champ, why don’t you try to be the first to beat me and face the only undefeated girl in the UFC, ME?”, who only responded that “now that everyone knows that the Ronda Rousey She’s not coming back, I’d love to face her.”
Amanda nunes became UFC champion by submitting Miesha Tate in the main fight of UFC 200, held in July (9). On the same night, Julianna Pena she beat former challenger Cat Zíngaro and put herself very close to a title fight. More experienced, Amanda has six wins and just one loss in Ultimate, while Peña won the three fights she had in the organization.
