The head coach of José Aldo, Dedé Pederneiras, believes that Conor McGregor has been avoiding a rematch with the Brazilian because he is not confident in his victory if the duel happens again in the future.

McGregor won the featherweight belt (up to 66 kg) in December last year, with a victory over the Brazilian, and since then he has had two fights, both against Nate diaz. The duels were held in the welterweight category (77 kg), and the Irishman said he did not welcome the possibility of returning to featherweight and having a rematch with Aldo.
Even though UFC president, Dana White, has assured that McGregor's next fight will be at featherweight, Pederneiras considers that the main obstacle is the Irishman's lack of confidence. “First of all, I always believe in Dana. If Dana says so, he needs to come down. But I don't think he's confident to fight Aldo again. He knows that that punch doesn't say anything about anyone, about who is better”, said the coach, in an interview with the podcast “The MMA Hour”, referring to McGregor's blow that knocked out Aldo in 13 seconds.
The Brazilian also questioned McGregor's mentality when deciding his next fights in the Octagon. “I don't understand why he wants to fight Nate again, but doesn't want to give Aldo the opportunity for another fight. I can not understand. Now he says he might go to lightweight. No, he needs to go down to featherweight and give Aldo a rematch. He deserves it,” he concluded.
