Former two-division UFC champion, B.J. Penn has a new date and place to return to the Octagon. It will take place on October 15th, in Manila, Philippines, in the main fight of UFC Fight Night 97. His opponent will be former title challenger Ricardo Lamas.
Penn hasn't fought since July 2014, when he lost for the third time to Frankie Edgar in his debut in the featherweight division (up to 66 kg). He would return to action in June, but ended up withdrawing from the fight after presenting an irregularity in the UFC's new anti-doping policy. In the past, the Hawaiian had won titles at welterweight (77 kg) and lightweight (70 kg).
Lamas comes at a moment of instability in his career, with two defeats (to Max Holloway e Chad Mendes) in the last three fights. In 2014, “The Bully” even challenged for the featherweight belt, but ended up defeated by José Aldo in the judges' decision. His professional record in MMA is 16 wins and five losses.
This will be the UFC's second visit to the Philippines, and, interestingly, the second time with a featherweight duel as the main attraction. In May 2015, Frankie Edgar derrotou Urijah faber in the judges' decision.
