Conor McGregor experienced a setback before his first fight against Nate diaz, in March, at UFC 196. The Irish fighter, UFC featherweight champion, suffered from an infection on the eve of the duel. This is what his head coach, John Kavanagh, revealed.

However, the leader of the SBG Ireland gym does not believe that this affected his fighter's performance in the duel. “He had [an infection]. But I don't consider that this had any effect on the defeat. I don't know a single fighter who goes into a fight and says the previous three months were perfect. There are always problems with your girlfriend, with your family, with work, with training… There will always be problems. So, we try not to talk about it after a fight because your opponent didn't have the perfect training either”, he commented, in an interview with the podcast “The Anik and Florian”, presented by UFC narrator Jon Anik and former fighter Kenny Florian.

On that occasion, McGregor had a competitive first round, but felt fatigue and Diaz's blows in the second round and ended up submitting. The two will rematch in a few weeks, on August 20th, in the main attraction of UFC 202, in Las Vegas (USA).
