Last Saturday (30), the welterweight Jake ellenberger achieved an important victory at UFC 201 to guarantee his job in the main MMA organization on the planet. However, it was close to the North American's chance: he was fired before the fight.
The 31-year-old fighter was going through a difficult phase in the UFC, with five defeats in his last six fights, which led to him being released from his contract. “We ended up cutting it. But he took a plane to Las Vegas [UFC headquarters in the United States], met me and said: 'Please don't fire me. Give me one more chance, I promise I'll deliver'. We put him against Matt Brown and he ended up surrendering”, explained UFC president, Dana White, in an interview with the North American broadcaster “FOX Sports”.
Ellenberger faced Brown on the main card of UFC 201. After delivering a knockdown in just a few seconds, “The Juggernaut”, as he is known, knocked out his rival with a kick to the body, 1min46s into the opening round.
