The United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) cleared the UFC lightweight Islam makhachev for the violation found in a surprise exam and announced that the fighter is free from any type of punishment.
Makhachev was cut off from his fight against Drew dober, on April 16, the day before the duel. This is because a test carried out 12 days earlier had indicated the use of the substance meldonium, which increases the blood's capacity to transport oxygen.

However, USADA concluded that Makhachev did not ingest the substance with the clear intention of gaining performance. The Dagestan fighter had undergone medical treatment based on meldonium in November 2015, and the small amount found in his body would be a remnant of this ingestion. Makhachev assured that he stopped using meldonium in January, when it became part of the list of banned substances.
“After an extensive investigation, USADA concluded that the extremely low concentration of meldonium in the athlete's urine sample, combined with its explanation, was consistent with use prior to January 1, 2016, when the substance was officially banned. Based on WADA [World Anti-Doping Agency] indications of June 30, 2016 for cases involving meldonium, Makhachev will not face any punishment with this positive test,” USADA explained in a statement.
Thus, Makhachev is officially free to return to the octagon. He is scheduled to fight at UFC Fight Night 94, an event to be held in Hidalgo, Texas (USA), against Chris Wade.
This is not the first time that USADA has reviewed punishments given to UFC fighters. In the past, the average weight Yoel romero and the welterweight Tim means They were suspended for failing exams, but had their sentences reduced because they proved to have taken contaminated supplements.
