Two former rivals Jon Jones revealed which substances were detected in the positive anti-doping test that removed the interim light heavyweight champion from the historic UFC 200. According to Chael Sonnen e Rashad evans, these were estrogen blockers.
Both Sonnen and Rashad worked at UFC 200, last Saturday (9), as commentators for North American broadcasters. Evans even cited several sources from Jones' team, where he himself has trained in the past.
According to information available on the WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) website, estrogen blockers are frequently used by athletes after using anabolic steroids. Taking steroids causes an automatic increase in the body's production of estrogen, a female hormone.
This would result in unwanted side effects, such as gynecomastia (breast growth in men). Precisely to avoid this type of reaction, athletes take estrogen blockers to avoid a drop in performance.
USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency), however, has not officially confirmed the irregularity committed by Jones. The test, carried out on June 16th, prevented the North American from fighting at UFC 200, last Saturday (9). Jones was replaced by Anderson Silva, which lost to Daniel Cormier in the judges' decision.
