Former UFC lightweight title challenger, Donald Cerrone controversially evaluated the performance of Daniel Cormier against Anderson Silva last Saturday (9), on the main card of UFC 200. The “Caubói” stated that the light heavyweight champion “fought like a queer” to beat the Brazilian in a unanimous decision by the judges.

On that occasion, Cormier fought safely, taking the Brazilian to the ground in three rounds to win a comfortable victory on points. Cerrone, however, criticized “DC’s” attitude, especially considering the difference in size of the two athletes in the octagon.

“How come you have a weight difference and then fight like a queer, man?” criticized Cerrone, in a chat with the audience on Sunday (10), during the UFC Hall of Fame awards ceremony.

Cerrone's comments were not well received by the UFC. The organization, which carried out a campaign against homophobia in the lead-up to UFC 200, declared to the “MMA Fighting” website that it was disappointed with the athlete's attitude, as the comment was made a day after Amanda nunes becoming the first gay woman to become Ultimate champion.

Cerrone then went public to apologize for the comments. “Earlier I said something that was offensive and I sincerely apologize. I have many friends in the LGBT community who I have let down. I can and will improve, because I respect the community and the principles of equality”, wrote the fighter.

“Caubói” is a training partner for Jon Jones, Cormier's arch-rival and who would face the light heavyweight champion at UFC 200. However, Jones was caught in a surprise drug test and ended up being cut from the fight, being replaced by Anderson at the last minute.
