Daniel Cormier did not find many difficulties to master Anderson Silva and win on the main card of UFC 200, an event held this Saturday (9), in Las Vegas (USA).

The light heavyweight champion used and abused his takedown game to contain the Brazilian's momentum and dictate the pace of the actions during the 15 minutes of the contest. However, Anderson was surprising if one takes into account that he accepted the fight with just over two days in advance.

Widely applauded by the public, the Brazilian even scared Cormier when the fight remained standing. In the third round, “Spider” landed a kick to the light heavyweight champion's ribs, which he appeared to feel. However, the victory was in Cormier's hands without any major surprises in the judges' decision.

“I just wanted to come here and test myself and it was a good experience. I hope this serves as a lesson to all Brazilians: anything is possible if you have good in your heart”, said Anderson, right after the fight, receiving great approval from the audience in the gym.

The fight

Anderson Silva He entered the arena to a huge ovation from the fans, who seemed to recognize his effort in accepting the fight two days in advance. As the fight began, Cormier feinted in his striking, while Anderson circulated. The light heavyweight champion took advantage of a good moment to take the fight to the ground. Cormier weighed on the Brazilian and tried to improve his position while throwing blows, while Anderson stopped. Cormier closed the first round with strikes, to boos from the public.

Anderson started the second round kicking, little by little loosening his game. Cormier then closed the distance and pinned the Brazilian to the ground, already landing with his guard passed. “DC” tried to mount, but Anderson managed to stay in half guard. Once again Cormier sought to work the ground and pound and evolve positions timidly. Then, the referee raised the fight, and Anderson again tried to attack, to the delight of the crowd. The round ended with both of them clinging to the fence.

The third round begins with both men accepting the exchange: Cormier landed a good right hand, and Anderson threw an elbow into the void. The North American then took the safe route and took the fight to the ground. Cormier strikes little, again in half guard, while the crowd screams for the referee to raise the fight again. Cormier then becomes more active with his strikes, but the fight returns to the feet. The two looked at each other without much action, and the Brazilian appeared more tired. Even so, the Brazilian attacks harder at the end and lands a good kick to the ribs, which bothers the champion. Cormier then grabs “Spider” until the gong sounds.

In the end, all three side judges gave victory to Daniel Cormier, with a triple 30 to 26. The North American recorded his fourth consecutive victory in the weight class, while Anderson has not won in the octagon since October 2013.
