the duel between Conor McGregor e Nate diaz, which headlined UFC 196 in March, was one of the fights that had the most impact in MMA in recent years. And the Irish fighter's head coach, John Kavanagh, added even more fuel to the fire by admitting that his pupil, defeated in the fight by submission, did not take the fight with due seriousness.

Just a few months before facing Diaz, McGregor had defeated José Aldo in overwhelming fashion to become the first fighter from Ireland to become UFC champion. This, according to Kavanagh, caused all members of the fighter's team to momentarily lose focus on the fight with Diaz.
“The fight with Aldo had such a big result for the team and the country that we all took our foot off the gas. So we went straight into another fight, and it's hard to explain the mentality we had. It was like a circus, almost like a pretend fight. It was kind of like: 'Ah, you're going to hit him once, he's going to fall and then we're going to continue with the journey to have the fight with [Rafael] Dos Anjos, because that's what matters'”, he confessed, in an interview with the website Norte -American “MMA Junkie”.
McGregor will have another chance to defeat Diaz on August 20, in the main fight of UFC 202, in Las Vegas (USA).
