The new weigh-in format seen in the last two UFC events appears to be here to stay. The Nevada Athletic Commission, the main regulatory body for MMA fights and which inspects fights in Las Vegas (USA), approved the formula and revealed that it will already be used in all events that will take place in the city in July, which includes the UFC 200.

In the events in question, the fighters will have the chance to do the official weigh-in in a time window that goes from 8 am to 10 am local time, on the eve of the fights. Previously, athletes only weighed themselves at 16pm. With the change, fighters will no longer need to spend as much time dehydrated, in addition to having more time to replenish body fluids before the fight, the following day.

Even though the official weigh-in of the fighters takes place in the morning, there will still be a ceremony held in the afternoon. There, however, it will just be an “enactment”: the fighters will step on the scale, but the weight announced will be the one recorded hours before.

The format was tested for the first time at UFC 199, at the beginning of the month, in California. Last week, a new experiment was carried out at UFC Ottawa, in Canada. In both events, the athletes' reception was largely positive.

The next day, Joanna Jedrzejczyk e Claudia Gadelha duel for the women's straw belt at TUF 23 Finale. Finally, on the 9th, UFC 200 will be held, with Jon Jones x Daniel Cormier, Brock Lesnar x Mark Hunt, José Aldo x Frankie Edgar e Miesha Tate x Amanda nunes.
