The confrontation between alistair overeem e Fabricio Werdum, for many it is the most balanced fight in the first phase of the Strikeforce heavyweight GP. While the Dutchman holds the category belt in the event, the Brazilian athlete is coming off an impressive victory over the Russian Fedor Emelianenko, in June last year. The fighters have never faced each other before, when in 2006, Werdum submitted Overeem in the now-defunct Pride. For Strikeforce president Scott Coker, the fight was the easiest to organize, as both athletes asked for this fight.
“Alistair asked for Fabrício personally. When we were in Japan (during the K-1 finals) he said: ‘You have to let me fight Fabrício. It’s important for me, I want to avenge that defeat’. So that was an easy fight to put together,” Coker said. “Werdum says he will erase Alistair,” he added.
