Former rival of José Aldo fails doping test in surprise

The UFC's new anti-doping control may have claimed its newest victim. The former featherweight title challenger, Chad Mendes, was notified by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) for a violation in a surprise test conducted outside of the competition period. The name of the substance found in the fighter's test was not disclosed.

In an official statement, the UFC confirmed USADA's notification and revealed that Mendes will remain away until the exam rebuttal is analyzed.

“The UFC organization was notified today (10) that the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) has informed Chad Mendes of a potential violation of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, resulting from sample collection during an out-of-competition period.”

Chad Mendes, 31 years old, has a professional record of 17 wins and four losses, three of them in duels for the UFC belt. He was surpassed twice by José Aldo and another for Conor McGregor in a duel for the organization's interim belt.
