The manauara José Aldo made history in the featherweight category of the now-defunct WEC. The fighter defended his event belt twice in a row, in addition to winning the award for best knockout of the night on two occasions. Now in the UFC, the champion seeks to expand his dominance in the category, already planning his future in the organization.

“I want to fight three times this year and keep my featherweight belt and then move up to lightweight and become champion of the category in 2012,” he said.

Aldo also highlighted that he has been treating a herniated disc since his confrontation with the Armenian Manny Gamburyan last September. The injury caused the cancellation of his UFC debut against the American Josh Grispi, but it didn't take away from the Brazilian his motivation to debut in today's biggest MMA event.

“I lost 1 centimeter in my right arm due to tingling caused by the compression of the discs in my spine. I asked Dana White for some more time to recover and he agreed to postpone my UFC debut. But now I’m looking forward to fighting,” said Aldo.

Regarding the statements of Chael Sonnen about Wanderlei Silva, where the North American stated that, if it weren't for him, Wanderlei would be selling monkey barbecue on the streets of Manaus, Aldo was critical of the stance adopted by Sonnen.

“He (Sonnen) is a clown who talks a lot of nonsense. If I said that in front of an Amazonian I would be taking serious risks”, assured Aldo.
