The end of a victorious career. This is how we can define the announcement of the retirement of the former UFC light heavyweight champion, Chuck liddell. The news was given by the athlete himself at the UFC 125 pre-press conference, held today (29) in the United States.
Liddell fought 29 times in his career, obtaining 21 victories over 12 years of activity. In addition to the UFC, “The Iceman” had a brief stint in the now-defunct PRIDE, where his knockout victory over the current Strikeforce heavyweight champion stands out, alistair overeem. At the event chaired by Dana White, the North American starred in fights that will be remembered in the history of MMA.
As a UFC athlete, Liddell faced Brazilian fighters on six occasions. The only Tupiniquim athlete who defeated the North American was Mauricio “Shogun”, who knocked him out at UFC 97. However, Murilo bustamante, Vitor belfort, Renato “Babalú” (twice) and Wanderlei Silva they felt firsthand what Liddell was capable of doing when the octagon lock was closed, being defeated by the UFC Hall of Famer.
But anyone who thinks that retirement will keep Liddell away from the world of MMA is mistaken. Also during the UFC 125 pre-press conference, White made official the hiring of his former fighter as the new vice president of business development.
