Wand threatens Sonnen: 'I can put my hand in your face'

More than two years have passed since the controversial third season of TUF Brasil, but the coaches of that edition, Wanderlei Silva e Chael Sonnen, continue exchanging public barbs. This time, the Brazilian responded to a story recently told by the North American and sent a very clear warning: “I can come over and put my hand in your face”.

At the beginning of the week, in an interview with the podcast “The MMA Hour”, Sonnen told a story that would have happened behind the scenes of the recording of the program, in early 2014. According to the loudmouth, Wanderlei no longer wanted to participate in the attraction, but ended up changing idea when Sonnen showed him his fat bank balance.

Wanderlei then recorded a video on his Facebook denying the story told by Sonnen and giving his version of the facts. “He has the nerve to come and tell a story that didn’t happen. When the program started, my first act was the following: I told him 'turn to this camera and apologize for what you said about the country, otherwise I won't work with you'. Then he said: 'I'm not going to ask. I think this country is really rubbish and I'm not going to ask for it'. So, I said I wouldn't record the program and left. We kept talking to directors and people from the program until my coach, Rafael Cordeiro, came to me and said: 'Wanderlei, you'll be able to resolve this dispute in the best way: inside the ring. You'll be able to hit him. Go back and do this program not for him, but for the athletes'. I respect my master a lot and I saw that he was right”, said Wanderlei.

The veteran continued: “Now he wants to tell this story that he showed his paycheck, his bank account? What are you talking about? Sonnen, you are a slacker. You're hiding behind your UFC contract because you're still tied to this event. I managed to free myself and I will fight in other events. We are in different events, but we live in the same world. I do not accept people telling lies about me. I can come over and put my hand in your face, you idiot”, he added.

Despite their long rivalry, Wanderlei and Sonnen never had the opportunity to resolve their differences in the octagon. The two were scheduled to face each other at UFC 175, in July 2014, but the fight fell through due to events that had important consequences for their careers: Sonnen was caught in a pre-fight anti-doping test and retired, while Wand avoided an exam and ended up suspended. to fight in Las Vegas – which also culminated in his departure from the UFC.
