UFC heavyweight veteran, Roy Nelson considers that the Brazilian fans played a fundamental role in the defeat of Fabricio Werdum for Stipe Miocic on May 14, in the main fight of UFC 198, in Curitiba (PR).

According to the North American's view, the crowd that filled the Arena da Baixada made Werdum excessively anxious, and, therefore, caused the Brazilian to get flustered before the knockout he suffered.

In an interview with “The MMA Hour” podcast, Nelson, who has already lost to both Werdum and Miocic, gave his opinion on the factor that decided the fight. “I think it was the Brazilian audience of 45 thousand people. You think, 'Man, I need to make some things happen. I want to make noise'. When you think like that, you want to put on a show and you become too anxious. I know what that feeling is like”, he analyzed.

However, Nelson made it clear that he does not consider that the blow that defined the fight in favor of Miocic was the result of chance. “I don’t think it was a lucky punch. I just think Werdum wasn't very smart. It was just a case of standing still and fighting, but he ran at it,” he commented.
