Fabricio Werdum avoided making excuses after suffering a resounding defeat in the main fight of UFC 198, in Curitiba (PR). After being knocked out by Stipe Miocic Still in the first round and losing the heavyweight belt, the Brazilian recognized his mistakes and gave credit to his opponent, but asked for an immediate rematch.

Werdum was knocked out by Miocic in the opening minutes of the fight, after clumsily attacking and being caught in a counterattack. In an interview with “SporTV” shortly after the fight, Werdum gave his impressions about his performance. “Tonight Miocic was better than me, I have to admit. I'm not going to be hard-headed. I was anxious, careless, but that's what heavyweight is. Land one punch and that's it. And this time he turned off the light. I have a good chin, but it turned out the light. It was a pity. I was a little hazy. I can take a lot of beatings, but this time the cool light turned off. He was better than me today, but he is not more complete than me”, he commented. “I should have waited a little longer, been more patient. I had five rounds to win, but I got a little overwhelmed.”

Werdum denied that he felt pressured to fight in front of a packed football stadium, but admitted his anxiety. “I have enough experience to fight with all these people. I was happy, anxious, and the anxiety got to me in a big way. I was paying attention, I started well, but I was desperate to finish the fight. The fairest thing would be for me to have a rematch, since I was the champion. I think everyone wants to see this one again,” he declared.
