New UFC interim light heavyweight champion Jon Jones went through some real bad times before his fight against Ovince St Preux, last Saturday (23). In addition to his problems with the law and the fact that he had been away for 15 months, the American also experienced family drama the week of the fight, with his mother experiencing serious health problems.

In a press conference held this Wednesday (27), in New York (USA), Jones revealed that the week before UFC 197 was not easy for him. “I went through a lot before my fight. My mother is in a battle with diabetes and had her leg amputated the week of the fight. In the same month as my fight, I was in jail”, recalled the American.

Even so, Jones managed to participate normally in the fight and defeated St. Preux by decision of the judges. Many consider that Jones had a disappointing performance, but the fighter himself disagrees. “He punched me twice in 25 minutes. That's it. He didn't hit me, he didn't hurt me. I felt good about the fight. There are moments when we want to be impressive, but that one I tried to fight intelligently. Now, I'm here, injury-free, and ready to fight at UFC 200. I think it was an extraordinary performance, and it will be even better against Daniel Cormier”, He explained.

In early April, Jones spent a few days in jail after violating his probation terms. Now, he will return to the Octagon on July 9, when he faces Cormier in the main fight of UFC 200 for the definitive belt in the 93 kg category.
