Jones and Cormier were scheduled to face each other last Saturday (23), in the main fight of UFC 197, but the champion ended up getting injured and was cut from the duel weeks before it took place. With that, “Bones” faced Ovince St Preux and prevailed to win the interim title in the 93 kg division.

In their first meeting, in January 2015, Jones, who at the time was still the lineal light heavyweight champion, beat Cormier in a unanimous decision by the judges. The fight became one of the most anticipated among MMA fans due to the feud between the athletes, which came to blows in a historic mess during a promotional event.
