Yuri "Marajó" faces Ricardo Lamas at WEC-53

The lightweight champion of Jungle Fight, Yuri “Marajó”, is just over a month away from starting his international MMA career. The fighter from Pará will face the North American Ricardo Lamas in his WEC debut, which will take place on December 16th on the preliminary card of the 53rd edition of the organization.

“Marajó” was recently hired by Zuffa, the company that manages both the UFC and WEC. The lightweight from the Pattaya Fight team has a record of 20 wins and three losses and has been undefeated for ten fights in his career. To become lightweight champion of the Jungle Fight, “Marajó” won the GP of the category in the 22nd edition of the organization, held last September. In the semifinal of the tournament, the athlete defeated his compatriot Francisco Drinaldo by submission (armbar), while in the final he beat Peruvian Manuelo Morales by technical knockout (kicks) at 16 seconds of the first round.

In turn, Ricardo Lamas will have his sixth fight in the WEC. “The Bully”, as he is known, has a record of nine wins and one loss in MMA, winning in his last fight against fellow American Dave Jansen in a unanimous decision by the judges at WEC 50.

In addition to “Marajó”, Brazil will also be represented at WEC 53 by the Pernambuco team Renan Barao, who will face the American Chris cariaso in another fight on the event's preliminary card. The final edition of the WEC, which will be integrated into the UFC next year, will also feature two title fights.
