The reality show The Ultimate Fighter is not expected to have a Brazilian season in 2016, but will be present in South America in great style. The two fighters were involved in the first ever season of TUF, at the beginning of 2005. Liddell shared the role of trainer with Randy Couture at the time, while Griffin became champion in the light heavyweight category. Season 1 of the program is still cited today as largely responsible for the tree of MMA in the United States.
The program will begin airing in August, and the finals are expected to take place in early November. The tryouts to choose the participating athletes were held in March, and involved both men and women from various weight categories. As Liddell and Griffin are retired from fighting, the end of the season will not feature a coaches' duel.
The first edition of TUF América Latina was held in 2014, with the command of Fabricio Werdum e Cain Velazquez. The champions were Yair Rodriguez e Alejandro Perez. The second season, under the supervision of Kelvin Gastelum and Efrain Escudero, crowned Enrique Barzola and Erick Montaño.
