The clash between Cormier and Jones was highly anticipated by the UFC, which kept Jones in the fight even after the former champion was arrested for arguing with a police officer.
Ultimate has not yet positioned itself Jon Jones will continue in the fight, as he hasn't fought since January 2015, or will he wait for his rival to recover.
If Jones leaves the fight program, UFC 197, which is scheduled for April 23 in Las Vegas, will still feature another title fight. Demetrious Johnson defends the flyweight belt against the undefeated Henry Cejudo.
Jones vs. Cormier
The rivalry between Daniel Cormier e Jon Jones is one of the biggest in the UFC today. Both they even got into a fight during a press conference, which preceded the promotion of their first fight.
In the clash between them, in January 2015, Jones won by unanimous decision from the judges. However, 'Bones' lost and was stripped of his title as champion and received a suspension from Ultimate after being involved in a traffic accident and fleeing without providing assistance to the victim, a pregnant woman. Reinstated to the Ultimate squad, the former champion would challenge Cormier, who won the vacant belt by beating Anthony Johnson. Subsequently, while Jon was still away, Daniel defended the title against Alexander Gustafson.
