Arrested earlier this week for violating the terms of his probation, Jon Jones He should be released from prison this Thursday (31). The former UFC champion participated in a hearing with a judge in Albuquerque (USA) this morning and agreed on the terms for his departure, including new punishments that he will have to pay in the coming months.

During the hearing, a curfew was considered for the athlete, preventing him from being outside the house after a certain time of day. However, Jones' lawyers claimed that such a measure would hinder the fighter's preparation for his next fight, in April. Thus, the penalty was discarded.

Understand the case

Jones had been on probation since pleading guilty to a traffic accident in April 2015. At the time, the fighter ran through a red light, hit a car driven by a pregnant woman and fled the scene on foot. The incident also caused the UFC to strip Jones of the light heavyweight belt as punishment.

Last week, Jones was approached by a traffic cop while driving in Albuquerque. The police officer stated that Jones was “having a bad time” and issued the fighter five fines. “Bones”, on the other hand, stated that he was just making noise with the engine to please some fans on the sidewalk.

Jones will try to regain the light heavyweight belt on April 23, in the main fight of UFC 197. The American will rematch his last opponent, Daniel Cormier, who won the vacant title last year. It seems that extra-octagon problems should not interfere with the fight.
