Despite the promising start, with two wins in two fights on the preliminary card, Brazil's participation in UFC Fight Night Brisbane ended with a negative result. After dominating the first two rounds, TUF Brazil 3 champion Antônio Carlos “Shoe Face” was surprised and ended up being knocked out by Australian judoka Dan Kelly in the third and decisive round.

At the beginning of the fight, Shoe Face He didn't want anything to do with the striking and quickly took Kelly down. On the ground, the Brazilian used all his experience in the ground game to control the Australian and, on his back, work on his dominant position. However, the Brazilian was unable to finish, despite threatening to get out in an armbar in the final stretch of the split.

In the second round, the pupil of Junior Gypsy He bet on striking and took the advantage at the beginning of the round, with good blows and a flying knee that shook his rival. However, in the final stretch, Shoe Face He attempted an unsuccessful takedown and ended up under Kelly, who took the opportunity to strike him and balance the round.

Right at the beginning of the last round, Shoe Face he hit Kelly with a knee in the genital area, but the Australian recovered promptly. Apparently, the low blow lit the fire in the Australian, who came with everything and ended the fight with a devastating sequence in the ground and pound.

After the triumph, the Australian judoka got excited at the microphones and promised that this is just the first triumph in his successful journey. “Even at 38 years old, I’m here to stay!”, assured Kelly, to presenter Jon Anik.

First New Zealander in UFC suffers fourth consecutive defeat

The appearance of the first New Zealand representative to step into the octagon on the Brisbane card was short-lived. James Te Huna was knocked out by former hockey player Steve Bossé in less than a minute and suffered his fourth consecutive defeat in Ultimate – which could possibly cost him his job in the organization.

Right away, the opponents studied each other in the middle of the Octagon, but it was the Canadian who took action, and his first initiative was enough to end the duel. Bossé scored from distance with a left jab and finished the job with a straight right to the chin, which left Te Huna unconscious.
