In a very busy first round, Allan Nuguette began applying a lot of pressure on his opponent and immediately taking him down. On the ground, the Brazilian punished his rival with several elbows and twice tried to submit him with a guillotine choke. At the end of the partial, however, the Australian managed to reverse the scenario and finished the round on top, in the ground and pound.

In the second round, Brown showed signs of fatigue, mainly because he was called up in a hurry for the match – as a replacement for Chad Laprisse. Nuguette took advantage of his physical superiority and spent practically the five minutes on top, attacking with blows and trying some submissions. At the end of the round, however, the Australian scared the Brazilian, catching him with a kimura, but Alan was saved by the bell.
