With the defeat of Conor McGregor for Nate diaz, it seemed that the possibility of there being a duel between champions at the historic UFC 200 event had been ruled out. However, another champion made himself available to put the idea into practice: lightweight title holder, Rafael dos Anjos offered to move up a category and challenge Robbie Lawler at welterweight on July 9th.
Dos Anjos was due to fight against McGregor last Saturday (5), at UFC 196, but ended up fracturing his foot. On his return to the octagon, the Brazilian wants to fight a fight that will attract the public's attention. “I want to return at UFC 200. I don't know what the UFC's plans are, but I'm here, I want to fight anyone. I would even fight at welterweight if necessary. Respect Robbie Lawler, but if the UFC needs someone to fight for the welterweight title, I would accept it”, said the fighter, in an interview with the podcast “The MMA Hour”.
UFC 200 has no confirmed fights yet, but the organization has already expressed its objective of making the attraction the biggest in its history.
